Loving a long shot

Still can't believe the price of SPIRIT OF BOOM last week. The dogs were barking all week and the win last time on the same course showed that Gollan had definitely worked out the horse. 8/1. Magnificent. It was interesting later that Tony was saying that the two BOOM horses are almost entirely separate, in as much as temple being a wet tracker and spirit hating it.

We will continue to watch anything Hammersley rides. Massively underrated and not sure anyone else would have got PUNCH ON home. Great day.

Today at Eagle Farm most of the horses Topping beat are back, but up to 2200. That's the really key form reference and I for one will be looking wide. Elsewhere on the typically trappy Brisbane programme I really like the Gold Coast run of MAGIC TARTAN, anything that made ground at that track deserves recognition and 8/1 is favourable. Drawn beautifully. Jockey in form. Have a go. Especially, if like us you have some of their money left from last week!

Regular readers will know where I am headed in Race 7 and I am delighted to see that the ludicrous $51 the TAB offered has been taken. CONTRACT CATERER has been disappointing to say the least but of all the Waller imports, he was always seen as one of the best. We have to back him today although it may still be too short for him. Expecting to collect the $9 a place today but have to be on. Good luck.

With money in our pockets, we're also interested in a $17 Gai Waterhouse horse in race 4. SATIRICAL BOY is a Group 3 placed horse having his third race. Trials more than good enough. Trained by Gai. $17?

Have a great day...
