So, finally, he wins. Top marks to Paul Hammersley who may be the most underrated jock in work, for a perfect ride on an unfancied outsider ($31 fixed odds!) but maybe, just maybe, he's as good a horse as we hoped...Nice and thanks to all at the club for a fabulous end to the day.
Terribly bad luck for WAZN at Gosford yesterday, 3,4,5 wide at points, mark my words, he's a very, very good horse and will be winning again. Also think that SPAIN was a good thing beat. By the ride mainly. Why do jocks let their horses get three four lengths out the back, in a class 1 midweeker? Fast finishing second, possibly the worst three word phrase in the English language? Will win next time, probably at odds on...
Now. Magic Millions. There are three things that every punter should keep toppermost in mind. Firstly, it's a tight and unforgiving track. Form counts for nothing if you are three wide going in to the last turn. Secondly, some jocks know the course well, the majority don't. Thirdly and especially for the 2 yo race, rememember they are horses not machines.
I guarantee that there will be some blow out results. To try to scrape a few dollars out of the day, firstly disregard every expert tipster's opinion, especially those whose names rhyme with Bony Trassel. Only back horses drawn inside and even then only the ones that lead with speed. If you can find a horse with good form over the class and distance and it's ridden by either Hammersley, Whitely or Griffin, bet up!
To help you all, we'll tell you all the horses that fit these criteria later today.
Terrible meeting at Rosehill, but do like a couple at odds, SIKKA and ROSE OF PEACE. Oh and Duff has tipped DOUBLE CRESCENT, but the value has gone already...
Our favourite bet, a $1 trixie, which is made up of three doubles and a treble, pays out over $1200 for the price of a skimmed soy decaf latte. Not even gambling really...
Stay tuned for more magic later.
