Back, back (back!)

Yes, its Eagle Farm Saturday and yes, we're hopeful...

The last few weeks have seen some of the worst racing weather I have seen in my short time in God's country. Normally I like a heavy 8 as it narrows down the fields. But when they have three or four boggy traacks in succession, you just end up with mudlarks running against one another. It's better than the cartoon racing on Trackview, but only just...

This Saturday, the forecast for Brisbane is "fine" although they ran on a heavy track at Doomben today. So, with a bit of drying weather, that sets us fair for a dead track at best at the weekend.

Even at this ridiculously early stage, there's a few I like for anyone fancying an ante post fixed odds bet.

CONTRACT CATERER just shouldn't be each way odds, let alone the $7 in places. Racing Heart is a mudder and won a poor race last time. CC is second up, straight up to the distance and proven. May still have some upside and surely an each way bet will see you start the day in front. Trust Jim Byrne. He knows what to do.

THE SIXTIES comes back from good listed form to be the best of the top rating horses in the BM 95 second race. Again, anything approaching each way odds will do us...

But the best story of the day is about a brother and sister running at the Farm on the same day. TOPPING is obviously a favourite of ours and has run a place in 4 out of the last 5 starts including beating some useful horses at the Gold Coast all those months ago when the sun was shining. He definitely needs more than a mile, but he is HUGE odds at 14/1 in old money.

And what a story it would be if his full sister BLACK OLIVE who runs in the 2yo race having recently made her debut in the winners enclosure also salutes on Saturday? With in form jock A Allen staying on her after that Ipswich win, the romantics might help themselves to a few dollars on the double at fixed odds of 300/1. Realists might look at the fact she has drawn 16 and is racing against Discreet who's probably the best maiden in training.

But what place has realism got in racing? $10 at 300/1? oh okay then...

Before I go, it's the Open. At Lytham. Woods will win. He's 10/1 on Betfair. Think that will look massive value come Sunday morning...
