Breathing, learning...

The TAB were offering 200/1 about Darren Clarke a week ago. Still don't reckon that's great value, if you know what I mean. He'd talked about giving it all up after shooting 81 in a Tour event a few months ago and even with two days to go, people like Fowler and Lefty looked like swallowing him up.

What is it with Lefty? Those short ones he misses are just awful. And he seemed to unravel from that point. Keeps smiling though, so top marks to him for that. And in Open week, also top marks to the competitor in our big day last week who turned up to St Micks with the wind blowing a gale. Off the blues, with the pins tucked away, one guy handed in his card for a hard fought 96. 25 over. I won't name him, but hats off to the lad in question whose handicap was an astonishing PLUS TWO. So that's a 96 net 98. Good on him.

Racing last week taught me another lesson. I'm not counting but its probably the 100th lesson I've learned on the punt this year and I'm tempted to make it the name of my book. "A short priced winner always beats a long priced loser".

By putting Scarf, Wazn and Master of Design in together, I got $277 back for my $10 treble. All three were fancied, all favourites and all fitted the mould of "if only" when you look at the paper next day. Perhaps it should have been $100? Mind you that logic didn't stop Brave the Way losing again. Not sure that horse has run a good race since Grafton. We'll pass on him for a while.

Home On A Wing is in the Blackbook (oh so close) alongside Wazn who looks the goods to me.

This weekend we should therefore be looking for some short priced favourites. Centerbet are slow with their odds today and so far there's nothing we like at any price. We will have another look at ESCHOLIDO back up to 2100 after an oddly run 1600 last time. We will definitely put a few of the hard earned on MUTAWAARATH  especially if there's $8 on offer.

But shorties? Can't see any yet. We'll be back...

ANTHONY KIM looks great value at $41 in the Canadian Open. Great value...
