Years ago, when studying the form for a big meeting at Cheltenham or Newbury, we would scour the small print in the Sporting Life to find lists of horses that had travelled the farthest to race. Simple logic said that a trip from Hexham in the North East of England to Cheltenham, some hundreds of miles and a few degrees of climate further south had to mean that the horse had a chance.
In God's country, of course distance is a whole bigger issue. And when we see a horse that last ran in Brisbane travel all the way to Sydney, two weeks after a spectacularly good win in a hot race, well it's time to take notice. Especially when Kelly Schweida is driving the float...
That race that GREY ASSIGNMENT won a fortnight ago in Brisbane was a hot race. On paper only a benchmark 85, it saw Il Cardinale, Mister Light Blue and Topping fight out a great race in double quick time. They're all well above average and despite our obvious interest and bias, have to admit he put them all away despite the jockey taking him up the inside and then back out around the wonder horse. That could be good form.
GREY ASSIGNMENT is $8. That's fabulous value. We'll probably double him up with WAZN, one of our favourites, but with the Duff away in Honkers, this might be a one bet day.
Go, you good thing...
Oh and Lee Westwood at $65 is great value. Take out the leader and he's only six behind, long way to go...
